Skipper Ralph Johnson, ably assisted by his crew aboard “Bruggadung II”, out-sailed an impressive fleet to carry off overall Racing Class honours in the last weekend’s Harris Paints Regatta.
“Bruggadung II”, with veteran tactician Andrew Burke back on board, further stamped its authority in local circuit, sailing unbeaten in the two-day event which was very keenly contested.

Other outstanding boats in the regatta was “No Compromise”, which was also unbeaten over the two days, to continue on its unbeaten run from the recent Mount Gay Rum/Boatyard.

Quite an interesting battle ensued between in the Laser Class with Russell Streeter coming to grips with conditions to get the better of the opposition.

Skipper Johnson gave clear indications of his intentions from first day, winning both races in the Racing Class, sailing in average conditions.

Runner-up in both races in class was “Blazin” sailed by Peter Burke, while finishing third in both was Peter Lewis’ “Whistler”.

On the first day Boats sailed up the south coast to St. Lawrence before returning to finish with a triangle-sausage-triangle in Carlisle Bay. In the second race the boats raced over a triangular course.

“No Compromise” continued to have things much its own way in the Cruising Class, winning both races from Jerome Reid’s “Jump Up”, which has been enjoying much success in recent years. Third place in both races went to Ron Hunt’s “Jaystar”.

In an enthralling showdown in the Laser Class, Streeter won the first race from Cyril Lacrenay, with Mehi Krumpak in third spot. However, in the second race, Krumpak turned the table on Lacrenay.

“Bruggadung II” maintained in winning run in the final race the following day, when boats raced up the south coast to a mark off Dover and returned to complete two triangles in Carlisle Bay. Skipper Johnson noted that conditions were a bit more challenging over the triangular course in Carlisle Bay, with the wind rather inconsistent.

However, he and his crew managed to hold off all challenges to end the regatta without defeat, and claim overall honours. “Blazin” again finished in the runners-up spot and second place overall, while “Whistler” was third for third place overall.

“Jaystar” returned its best performance in the final race in Cruising Class, finishing second behind “No Compromise” the overall Cruising Class winner.

Mark Grannum’s “Gypsy Gnat” was third in the final race to return its best performance in the regatta. However, “Jaystar” and Jump-Up” shared the honours for third place overall.

Streeter completed his unbeaten run in the Laser Class to finish as the overall winner.

Lacrenay was runner-up in the final race for second place overall, while third place overall went to Krumpack, who placed fourth in the final race. Third place in the final race went to Roland Grant.

Following the conclusion of the race, awards for outstanding performances were presented to the respective winners at the Yacht Club.
