Over 40 golfers will take to the beautiful Sandy Lane greens next Saturday to compete in the 2004 Mercedes Benz Trophy golf tournament.

At the conclusion of this leg of the tournament, three of the winners will automatically qualify for the semi-finals of the regional tournament slated to be held in Miami in August, at the exclusive Diplomat Country Club and Spa.

Twelve other countries including Chile, Columbia, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, will take part in the Miami semi-final. Local Mercedes Benz representative, Penny Johnson of Simpson Motors explained that the local winners‚ airfare and hotel accommodation will be taken care of by Simpson Motors and DaimlerChrysler.

“The three winners of the Miami semi-final will go on to compete in the World Final in Stuttgart, Germany, in September.

“They will represent the Caribbean/Latin America, compliments of DaimlerChrysler Ag,” Johnson explained.

She added, “Next weekend’s competition will consist of one single round of 18 holes Stableford play in accordance with the rules of Golf as approved by Royal & Ancient (R&A), United States Golf Association (USAGA) and the local rules of Sandy Lane Golf Club.

“There will be three handicap divisions; Handicap A 0-12; Handicap B 13-20; Handicap C 21-36.

In an effort to make the tournament extra special, a lucky golfer may drive away‚ with a brand new Mercedes Benz C-Class as a hole in one prize,” Johnson said.
