ANDROMEDA BOTANIC GARDENS

Andromeda was created as a private garden by local botanist Iris Bannochie in 1954. This five acre haven, perched on a cliff overlooking the east coast, has grown to become one of the most acclaimed botanic gardens in the region.

	Now run by the Barbados National Trust, the property boasts a stunning orchid collection, as well as shrubs, palms, ferns, succulents and many other flowering plants, including brightly coloured waxy heliconia...
The garden trail takes you past banks of Rose of Sharon trees, Frangipani, Flamboyant, and superb Cycads. There is the rare Bombax Ellipticus, the shaving brush tree and a wide selection of palms. Visit the spectacular ancient bearded fig tree from which Barbados, (bearded in Spanish), gets its name!
	Andromeda boasts the largest collection of hibiscus on the island even a grey hybrid! Lily strewn ponds are dotted around the gardens and there is the amazing Jade vine Local botanists offer free guided tours of the gardens every Wednesday at 10.30 am and bearing in mind some visitors consider this spot one of the most attractive on the island it's well worth marking this one in your diary.

Open daily 9.00 am to 5.00 pm

From here a short drive takes you to the spectacular East Coast of Barbados.
