Barbados Banks Hockey Festival 2003

The Banks Hockey Festival always lives up to its reputation as one of the best of its type in the world. Hosted annually at the Wildey Astroturf this years Festival promises to be as competitive as the ones before.

Some 70 plus International teams spill into our beautiful island to witness a week long celebration of this very popular sport. Sandwiched between some dynamic play is a carnival atmosphere including a bumper social schedule.including excellent camaraderie and social interaction which at times is as demanding as the hockey itself!

Barbados Banks Hockey Festival 2003 Teams visit from the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada and of course other neighbouring Caribbean islands. It is this international flavour that is an integral part of this unique culture...

Barbados Banks Hockey Festival 2003
Games start at 10 am and although centred around Wildey some games are played on the grass at Kensington Oval test ground, the Police Sports Ground at Weymouth and Banks Brewery Sports Club.

There are four categories:

Women

Mixed

Men's Veterans

Games in the first three categories are played in pools with the winners going through to the Friday semi finals.

The Banks International Hockey Festival is well organised on and off the field and is traditionally held around the last week of August.

International teams are advised to book early and bring an umpire and a medic. especially one with experience of treating hangovers!

Barbadian Hockey is in a health state it has greatly improved since the Wildey Astroturf was laid some four years ago.

Youth hockey is on the increase and we can look forward to a long and health Hockey life in Barbados.
