Grammy-award winner Rihanna came home to a hero's
welcome. The singing sensation was met by Prime Minister David Thompson,
Government ministers and relatives when she stepped off a British
Airways flight around 3:50 p.m. There were hundreds of umbrellas
in the arrival area, a tribute to her chart-topping song "Umbrella",
as Barbadians converged en masse to celebrate the multiple award
winner.
After the official welcome, Rihanna was the guest
of honour at a cultural presentation featuring performances from Dancin''

THE SHINING SUPERSTAR that is Robyn Rihanna Fenty
got even brighter Sunday night when she copped her biggest award
at the prestigious American Music Awards (AMAs) show in Los Angeles.
The 19-year-old Bajan sensation took the award of Favourite
Female Artist, Soul/R & amp;B, beating out more experienced and renowned
nominees including pop divas, Beyonc & eacute; and Fantasia, and adding
this to a string of 2007 achievements that included two MTV awards, World
Music Awards, dominance of the Billboard Top 100, and a ten-week run atop

RIHANNA SPARKLES AT MUSIC AWARDS. Rihanna, in
a dramatic Zac Posen gown, performed a classical rendition of her
smash hit Umbrella with string accompaniment and a Hate That I Love
You duet with Ne-Yo at the 2007 American Music Awards on Sunday.
Rihanna was named the favourite female Soul/R & B star, beating
out Beyonc and Fantasia. For the first time in show history,
winners were chosen by public votes cast online. Above, Rihanna

Barbados' brightest star is back home, armed with

The 19-year-old Def Jam recording artist, who copped
two MTV awards last month and is a nominee at next month's American
Music Awards, flew in Wednesday night, fresh from a concert in Montreal,
and was joined by her mum Monica and met by best friend Leandre
at the airport. Rihanna spent yesterday afternoon liming with other
teenaged pals in Bridgetown, before joining other relatives for

the second year by Timeless Barbados Inc., the two-man team sought
to reward Barbadian talent in the entertainment industry.
And with several record producers from the United States and other
record executives in attendance, many artistes called the five-hour
show a great success and "an excellent opportunity".
"I am a living testimony of what this show can do for you,"
said Dwayne Husbands who performed at the inaugural BMA and since
then got the opportunity to create a duet with Rihanna.
