Photograph compliments of the Nation News THRILL AND TREATS. Well over 8 000 Barbadians and visitors thronged Bushy Park as the Barbados Auto Racing League season got off to a scorching start. Roger ÒThe SheriffÓ Skeete returned to the St Philip circuit after a 11-year break to emerge champion driver. Skeete won all the races in Group 3C and capped it off by blitzing all in the final race of the day, the Handicap. One of the highlights of the day was this amazing run by Adrian Bailey competing in Group 1B. Driving a Peugot 205 GTI, Bailey hit the kerb, blew a tyre and made a stunning two-wheel turn around a S-bend in the top turn Ð without flipping over.

FURTHER COOPERATION between Barbados and Jamaica in motorsport has the potential to realise the long-mooted Caribbean rallying championship.
That was the suggestion of chairman of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club Errol Anderson, in an interview with the WEEKEND SPORT moments after the recent presentation of prizes for the 2005 Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club's Petcom All Stages Rally.
"A Caribbean rally championship has always been bandied about. But I know that sometimes the difficulty is the time it takes to ship a car from here to there and to get it back. That makes it maybe two, two-and-a-half months, to be able to compete locally. And you might be someone who wants to compete for a local championship. So that brings something different to the table," he said.
Anderson noted however, that with Barbados and Jamaica annually trading entries, prizes could be presented at year-end on the basis of points accumulated for the twin rally championships of Barbados and Jamaica "and see where it goes from there".
The rally boss said it would be a good start on which to expand across the region. He noted it would be vital to attract significant sponsorship and to get several commercial interests involved in the initiative.
Anderson described this year's rally as a success and said it was pleasing to see the number of Barbadian entries and fans increasing every year.
He said his association would like to find more stages.
"With all that is being said about sugar in the Caribbean, if the sugar estates go down and they are not replaced with anything that will use all these roads, and the roads go to pot, then we are going to have a real hard time getting a lot more stages. And that is a challenge we face," he added.

Trevor Electric Micey Manning (seen here) driving his Shell Helix/Courts/Automotive Art/Kerridge/Simpson Motors/Garbage Master Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII. At the start of last weekend Trevor Electric Micey Manning had set out to reclaim what he had loss to Paul The Surfer Bourne last year, was the Vaucluse RallySprint track record.
Even before the dust could settle on the final day of the International RallySprint which forms part of the 2005 Barbados Rally Carnival, Manning in his Shell Helix/Courts/Automotive Art/Kerridge/Simpson Motors/Garbage Master Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII had elcipsed the old record over the three-kilometre course with a new time of two minutes 01.88 seconds.
The old record set by Bourne last year was two minutes 03.42 seconds.
However, the retired Bourne, who returned for one last Rally Carnival, sound a warning that he was not giving up the title of record holder without a fight and replaced last year s record with a new time of two minutes 02.87 seconds before Manning was able to reach the mark.
But Bourne would not have any further opportunity to lower his time as he was knocked out early in the group runs.
