BARBADOS - wind and kite surfing
While many Barbadians heeded the warning against venturing into the sea yesterday, veteran windsurfer O'Neal Marshall took to the water to take advantage of the big waves. Marshall, 33, who represented Barbados at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics, said he could not resist the ideal conditions set by Tropical Storm Emily. He and his friends usually wait for the hurricane season to ride the waves since it was the only opportunity they got to use the smaller sails. This was not an activity for the unschooled, however.
Compliments of the Nation News
Located in the extreme south west of the Caribbean, Barbados is exposed to the SE trades. Blowing from the east, with typical wind speeds of 20 knots and very little variation throughout the season it's not difficult to see why Barbados is a popular destination for Windsurfers worldwide.
This International event gives Barbados a world presence
on the high profile professional windsurfing circuit.
Anita Elms, Regional Marketing Manager of Duty Free Caribbean, Cave Shepherd’s holding company, announced the partnership on behalf of the company at the Broad Street store yesterday.
