Local hotel ranks best in the world in sustainable tourism

One of this country’s hotels has won the World Legacy Travel Award in the General Hotels and Resorts category. It is the Casuarina Hotel at Dover, Christ Church.
The awards are a joint effort by National Geographic Traveler magazine and Conservation International, aimed at increasing awareness of sustainable tourism’s benefits and to recognise those who practice it well.

A statement from the organisers about Casuarina, states “No two rooms are decorated alike in the resort, which supports local artisans and educates its guests about how to conserve the local environment. Or as one manager put it, ‘Reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink!”

Barbados offers a wide range of hotel accommodation ranging from the super luxury of the spacious Sandy Lane Hotel or exclusive Lone Star, to budget hotels such as the self-catering apartment hotels to be found on the south and west coasts.

Winter season accommodation is usually booked quite far in advance, as is hotel accommodation during cricket test matches, major sporting and musical events.
