Springer retained both the league and knockout titles with victories over the Barbados Community College (BCC) in the league finals and a five sets thriller over Coleridge & amp; Parry (CP) in the finals of the knockout. Combermere boys needed to come from two sets down to take the knockout title from CP after the lads had deposed former rulers The Lodge School in the semis. The finals proved to be most exciting in recent years with both events going to five sets. Springer beat CP into another second spot, 25-9, 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 16-14. Combermere triumphed over CP, 20-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 15-13. Springer claimed the MVP title thanks to Janeice Clarke who also took the Best Spiker Award and the multi-talented Kycia Knight being voted the Best Defensive player. The bespectacled Ramon Blades of Combermere won the MVP title along with the Best Setter award. John Thompson edged Kyle Maxwell for the Best Spiker title with Maxwell claiming the Best Passer award. The Lodge School who were expected to successfully defend their knockout title had to be consoled with Barbados libero Rico Brathwaite taking the Best Defender title. While an injury to Kohbia Barrow of CP hurt their chances of finishing off Combermere after being up two sets. CP also won the girls' Best Server title with Barbados junior Marissa Dowell taking that honour while her teammate Janelle Morris was voted Best Passer. BCC's Kara Sealy was the girls' Best Setter while school mate Dean Smith was the Best Blocker. (KB) |
