The West Indies Women’s Cricket Federation (WIWCF) qualified for the International Women’s Cricket Council (IWCC) World Cup in South Africa in 2005 by placing second in the qualifying tournament in Holland in 2003. The WIWCF also successfully hosted a visit by the Sri Lanka Women’s Team with matches played in Trinidad and St Vincent. The WICB continues to provide support to the WIWCF in the areas of coaching education, competitions and institutional strengthening. Many of our programmes, including those at the mini academies, involve women. Compliments of the Nation News

The Vincentians, who were here for the annual Pine and Wildey Softball Festival, made 170 for nine in their 30 overs and then routed the combined Barbados team for 63 runs in 14.4 overs. The Barbadian girls have been hard at practice over the past five weeks with the hope of participating in next month’s West Indies Hardball Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago. Should they go to the May 2-16 regional tournament, it will be the first time in almost two decades that a Barbados women’s hardball cricket team would be participating. Former Police Division 1 batsman, Alfred Campbell, who has been leading the drive for the revival of women’s hardball cricket, is appealing for financial support from corporate Barbados to make the trip to the twin-island republic a reality. Summarised scores: United Survivors 170-9 in 30 overs (Garrick 27, Jack 26, Lynch 19, Williams 12, Gibson 10; Maria Burnham 4-15). Combined Locals 63 in 14.4 overs (Andrea Payne 18, Armintha Browne 11, Kyshona Knight 10; Williams 5-22, Jack 4-13). United Survivors won by 107 runs. Compliments of the Nation News |
