CARIBBEAN - photography
Bob Kiss at the opening of his Chattel House Platinum/Palladium print exhibition at the Caribbean Gallery of Art in Speightstown, Barbados.
Platinum/Palladium prints are made by hand because no one manufactures pre-coated platinum/palladium paper.
Due to the characteristics of the printing process the prints have more mid tone separation and greater subtlety in the highlights and shadows than silver/gelatin prints.
Pt/Pd printing was invented in the 1870's and at the turn of the last century was considered the only medium for the serious fine art photographer.
Platinum and palladium are two of the most inert metals know so properly processed prints will last as long as the 100% cotton paper on which it is printed, and cotton paper has lasted for centuries!
