THE Bougainvillea Beach Resort and Sand Acres Hotel will be sharing their “green secret” at Green Expo 2003.

A green globe certified establishment, they will give tips on safe environmental practices for use at home and work.

Patrons will witness a demonstration on the preparation and use of organic products, such as the all-purpose cleaners and window cleaners.

The hotel promises to educate the public on how these environmentally-friendly products can be used, to replace the harmful chemicals commonly used in our homes and business places.

They will offer informative ideas on the importance of saving energy, water and electricity, and show how a meter- reading technique will help detect leaks.

Additionally, there will be tips on stretching the dollar.

The hotel will show how savings can be derived from wise purchasing – bulk buying and sticking with the non-toxic and environmentally friendly products.

Waste management is another area of interest. And with the mounting garbage problem, the hotel will proffer solutions at a workshop focusing on reducing waste.

The “reduce, reuse and recycle” forum will show how simple and everyday products such as glass, printer cartridges, paper, plastic containers, toilet paper rolls, old towels, sheets and even old clothing can be recycled and reused. Young and aspiring hotel workers will benefit from a career showcase which the hotel will offer.

“Each day we will feature a different department and a department head will be on hand to answer any questions that interested persons may have and also to hand out literature,” said Sylvia Phillips, human resources officer.

Departments to be featured will include sales and marketing, reservations, front desk, activities, landscaping/grounds and public relations.

Further exposition will be given on managing disaster, including fire prevention, fire fighting, chemical spillage and hurricane preparedness.
