Simon Proverbs dominated his age group while Nick Voss had a very commendable second place at the Caribbean Junior Golf Championships in the Dominican Republic lin June 2005.

He led on every day in the boys 12-and-under category and won special mention by the organisers for an historic achievement.

No other player has led on every day in any category at these championships,

said Richard Proverbs, Simon's father and the team's manager.

Proverbs shot 76, 77, 76 for a gross 229 over the three days.

In the senior boys division, Voss' game came on strongly towards the end and he shot the same score as the winner, Scott Macdougal (74) on the final day.

Macdougal won with 223, while Voss shot 77, 75 and 74 for 226 overall, just three short of the 16-18 age-group winner.

Manager Proverbs also lauded the performances of Mary Ince in the 13-15 girls category and Serena Smith in the 12-and-under division.

Ince placed seventh in her category with 287 over the three days while Smith was eighth with 153.

While Ince has not been playing regularly, Proverbs said he was impressed with her "fantastic temperament", which he said was essential in competitive golf.

"They both did very well for their ages," the manager said.

The first two days were challenging with heavy rain, winds and, on the first day, lightning.

At least two members of the team also came down with ailments, including Bobby Edgehill who was forced to withdraw on the final day.

Some of the senior players struggled, among them Sean Edey, who finished seventh with a gross 239, Adam Farmer with 258 and Jaime Hole in the female section.

Hole was eighth with a gross 260.

Robert McGuire was the best of the Bajan boys in the 13-15 category. Coming off an eventful Beacon Barbados Open championship, he was 15th in the 13-15 boys category with 267. Peter Barrow was 16th with 275.

Warren Bynoe shot a gross 248 for fifth place in the 12-and-under boys division.

The regional junior championships ended last weekend. Other countries and teams which competed were The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, the hosts, Jamaica, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago.
