Guyana was invited to bat first after Barbados won the toss, and the opening pair of Sewnarine Chattergon (51) and Krishna Arjune (55) patiently built up a strong foundation for the innings, while Barbados was grounding a number of their catching opportunities in the field. After the visitors went to lunch on 54, they returned and brought up their century marker in 284 minutes off 270 balls and it looked as though the home team was not going to make any head way in the Guyana batting order. However, experience pacer Ian Bradshaw broke the partnership when he had Arjune caught in the gully by the Barbados captain Ryan Hinds in the 45th over.Arjunes innings lasted 180 minutes and he struck five fours. Just as another partnership was about to be built up Chattergon fell off the bowling of offspinner Ryan Austin. Barbados left-arm fast bowler Pedro Collins making his first first-class appearance following a stress fracture of the back that sidelined him, picked up the next two wickets. First that of Steven Jacobs and then he bowled Narsingh Deonarine who had shoulder arms only to see the ball swing back and hit his stumps and Guyana went into the tea interval 131 for the loss of three wickets. Tino Best who was generating a lot of pace and keeping the batsmen on their toes got into the wicket-taking act. After a number of short deliveries which had been skied, but dropped in no-mans land, Best bowled a sharply, rising delivery which Travis Dowlin attempted to hook. Best dived full stretch to his right to snatch the ball out of the air for his first wicket of the day. Dwayne Smith was the pick of the Bajan bowlers with three wickets. He first trapped Neil McGarrell leg before wicket (lbw)
after, McGarrell was dropped by Reifer in the slips two balls earlier
in the over. Bowling wicket to wicket he knock over the stumps of Esaun
Crandon for 12 and finished off the innings by bowling Reon King for eight.
