Sacked! - Thursday 25, November-2004

First row from left: Brian Lara, Courtney Browne, Ian Bradshaw and Dwayne Bravo. Second row from left: Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dinesh Ramdin, Corey Collymore and Marlon Samuels. Third row from left: Ryan Hinds, Mervyn Dillon, Chris Gayle and Wavell Hinds. Fourth row from left: Darren Ganga, Pedro Collins, Sherwin Ganga and Devon Smith.

The hole into which West Indies cricket has fallen got even deeper yesterday as the stand-off between employers and employees continued.
The West Indies Cricket Board sacked 16 players named for a camp – including skipper Brian Lara. They were dropped because they did not sign and return contracts on time and have been ruled out of the tri-nation One-Day series in Australia.

The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) set up its own meeting at the Trinidad Hilton with president Dinanath Ramnarine.

However, of the nine players who signed, two players – Darren Sammy and Runako Morton – attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, the selectors were busy looking for fresh faces and they could name more than 16 new players. The new names will be released today.

WIPA is however claiming to have the backing of most players in the region, so it is uncertain if the new players selected will all sign the contracts.

THOSE WHO SIGNED: Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Deighton Butler, Narsingh Deonarine, Reon King, Xavier Marshall, Ricardo Powell, Dwight Washington, Runako Morton and Darren Sammy.

THOSE WHO DIDN’T: Ian Bradshaw, Dwayne Bravo, Courtney Browne, Pedro Collins, Corey Collymore, Mervyn Dillon, Sherwin Ganga, Darren Ganga, Chris Gayle, Ryan Hinds, Wavell Hinds, Brian Lara, Dinesh Ramdin, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devon Smith.
