tours BARBADOS
- Christ Church tours Leaving Bridgetown and travelling to the Garrison along Highway 7 takes you to Hastings in the parish of Christ Church. Hastings
This area was developed as Barbados's first tourist resort; there still remain a handful of grand and graceful old hotels, which overlook the bandstand on 'The Rocks'. Pause for a moment to sit in the bandstand and enjoy a bygone era...when soldiers played their brass bands and Victorian ladies took afternoon tea! As the name suggests this area is steeped in history. A by product of British military development the soldiers from St. Ann's Fort were housed in these red brick houses of Pavilion Court. It was once the hospital but has since been renovated into flats and small businesses. |

The area is dedicated to preserving the natural environment . This is the last remaining natural wetland on the island and an important eco-system. Graeme Hall has provided a resting place for migratory birds en route from the eastern United States to the South American mainland for centuries.
Over 150 species have been recorded including rare and now extinct birds
such as the Eskimo curlew and the first ever sighting of the purple heron.
More commonly are the plover and snipe, the birds of prey such as osprey
and falcon can be seen. Resident birds include the yellow warbler, green heron, and egrets Here you can experience an interesting tropical phenomenon, rooted in the water you can see mangroves, these small trees have long roots which are covered with pores that admit air to the interior of the plant. Here you will find the red and white mangrove, the red specimen can only be found in this swamp. The environment provides a habitat for hundreds of species of aquatic flora and fauna. Years of neglect and abuse have now been turned around and this is a must for any 'twitchers' that visit our island.
Located in the Worthing area in Christ Church, Sandy Beach is calm and clear with safe shallow waters. It is an ideal location for picnics especially with young children.
If you visit at low tide, the tide may be out and you can explore the reef
for creatures that live and hide there. Be warned, wear swimming shoes, the reef can be sharp and sea urchins can be very prickly! If you visit at high tide it's great for snorkelling.
There is easy access to this beach and parking is available at a nearby
parking lot or on the beach itself. Food and drinks are readily accessible
at terrace beach bars. Jet-skis and windsurfing facilities are sometimes
available, as well as chair and umbrella rentals.
And day or night why not enjoy great food at this little restaurant.. a wonderful place to while away a few hours with friends. |
