A coast to be proud of which is valued, appreciated and safeguarded as a place to live, work and relax; a place where development and use of resources will be sustainable, and where the natural environment is protected and enhanced to keep its essential and unique place in the Barbadian heritage.

BREAKWATER

A structure that protects the area in its lee from wave attack. The most common form of breakwater is a rock mound constructed parallel to the shoreline.

GROYNE

A structure generally built perpendicular to the shoreline that traps the sediment that is being transported along the coastline.

GROYNE LOCATED ON THE SOUTH

COASTAL REVETMENTS

A facing of stone, masonry or concrete blocks used to support an embankment. The facing serves to protect against erosion caused by waves or currents.

A structure projecting into the sea, which is used as a landing-stage

GABIONS & SEAWALLS

Gabions

A structure, usually massive in nature (rubble mound or concrete) designed to prevent flooding and wave damage to the land in its lee.

ARTIFICIAL BEACH NOURISHMENT

The replenishment of a beach with material (usually sand) obtained from another beach.
