cricket >> BARBADOS - cricket archive - Combermere School Date December 21, 2005 by Ezra Stuart FOR THE SECOND time in three days this week, the boys from Combermere and Coleridge and Parry will square off in a schools cricket final. Combermere won the battle for supremacy at the Under-19 level on Monday but from noon today, Coleridge and Parry will start their quest for glory in the British American Insurance Sir Everton Weekes Under-13 final at the Police ground, Weymouth, St Michael. Both teams have two cricketers who are members of the successful Barbados Under-13 team which won both the Malcolm Marshall and Inshan Ali trophies against their Trinidad and Tobago counterparts last week. Combermere are well served by all-rounders Kraigg Brathwaite and Justin Greaves while Coleridge and Parry are represented by all-rounders Dario Harris and Shane Parris. The tall, slimly-built Brathwaite, who is Combermere's captain, is fresh from a record score of 169 versus the Trinidadians, while his opposite number Harris just missed a half-century by one run in their semi-final victory over St Michael last Wednesday. Combermere will be without first-choice wicketkeeper Damien Carter and batsman Brandon King, who have gone overseas for the holidays but stand-in manager David Banfield reckons the Waterford lads are still a formidable outfit. "The team is well rounded. We bat down to No.11 and we also have a choice of ten bowlers," Banfield said. He attributed Combermere's success in reaching the final to a combination of preparation and discipline instilled by coaches Roddy Estwick, Mark Evelyn and Ezra Moseley. Coleridge and Parry's coach Denis Springer believes it is time the St Peter school turn the tables on Combermere. "We have to get one of these titles from Combermere and I think this is the right time. I know Combermere have a good team but we also have a well-balanced side," Springer said. "If we bat first and score 160 runs, we could put pressure on Combermere to get these runs and if we bowl first, I know that we can restrict them to 130 runs which would be a gettable score for us," added Springer. Teams: Coleridge & Parry - Dario Harris (captain), Shane Parris, Christon Morris, Stefan Cumberbatch, Romalio Bend, Shamar Collymore, Brandon Boyce, Mickeel Devonish, Lamar King, Akiel Horton, Marlon Goodman-Welcome, Zico Pilgrim, Anton Lucas. Combermere - Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Justin Greaves, John Banfield, Jamar Ward, Matthew Ward, Natari Wharton, Ronel Hunte, Shakeel Harewood, Shayne Moseley, Ade Chase, Sheldon Small, Kareem Griffith, Daryll Harewood.
