Cool Jazz for March was a mellow mix of fashion, art and
the magic of music. The show opened with an interesting array of men’s
clothing from Praxis Man’s Shop and much emphasis was placed on
the total approach to grooming and fashion
A short interval followed the well-received fashion show
which was spent browsing the colourful display of works by prolific Trinidadian
artist Marielle Barrow.
Billed as Guitar Mania with International artist Michael
Cheeseman, the show didn’t disappoint as the audience
was treated to a generous two hour set of soulful guitar
The band provided an excellent backing
for this accomplished International guitarist and appeared to enjoy
the evening as much as the audience. Andre Donawa on bass
Wayne “Poonka” Willock on congas and
percussion
Dave Burnette on drums and Terrence Griffith
on keyboards
German visitor “Holly” added another
rhythmic dimension
Backing vocals were provided by Faith Hoyte & Bruce Grant
Michael Cheeseman stated that it was his wish to
encourage young musicians and to this end introduced the young drummer
“Marvelous” Marva King to the Cool Jazz audience
Taking time out from his guitar Michael sang the
duet “Unforgettable” with Faith
The new stage at the end of the Southern
Palms pool area creates a picturesque setting for these excellent
monthly musical evenings
