The four young musicians in the opening
act Neocoustic, displayed the burgeoning talent that abounds on this
tiny island of Barbados.
The audience was left in no doubt as to the musical versatility of young
Mistral
as she switched with ease from pan to wind instrument
Shamar Hinds on bass and Chad Ifill on drums played with infectious energy
and enthusiasm
The keyboard player Nakita Vaughn showed range and style, perfectly complementing
Mistral’s pan. Cool Jazz Producer Chris Harper expressed his delight
at the talents of the young performers
In the feature act of this final Cool
Jazz for the 08 season, vocalist Kellie Cadogan presented a powerful
performance
Kellie was ably backed by Julian Griffith on electric bass, Kirk Layne
on keyboards, Melvin Alic on drums and Nicholas Timothy on tenor sax
Dionne Whitehall provided background vocals and guest vocalist John King
delighted the audience with his surprise appearance
Actors Rashida Harding and Angelo Lascelles also contributed to the performance.
It was with regret that Chris Harper bade farewell to his 5th season audience
but he promised that the 08 season of Cool Jazz would be even more exciting
APRIL 2007
April’s Cool Jazz presentation
opened with a group that convinced patrons that music in Barbados
is safe in the hands of the next generation!
Steel Pannist Joel Devonish entranced
the audience with his ability to create a wide spectrum of moods from
sweet to strident
Nicholas Timothy on sax, Kirk Layne on bass and John Mathews on
guitar were also crowd pleasers, especially in their solos
Lorie Worrell on keys and Chad Greaves
on drums were the other members of this exciting group
Chris Harper then introduced the feature act of the evening to the full
house that had gathered for the special occasion, the launch of Andre
Woodvine’s new CD
"If Life came in a box it would be labelled...Some Assembly Required"
this is how Andre describes the reasoning for his title
