Cool Jazz series two continued in great style with the April presentation Jazz Combo Night.

Canadian Rhythm poet Dwayne Morgan gave an impressive performance for an appreciative audience at the Southern Palms hotel on the south coast of Barbados

Below is Dwayne's June Newsletter.

Greetings friends,

It's been another busy month, but Ihave no choice but
to keep on moving.

I started off the month as a panelist and performer at
the Toronto International Dub Poetry Festival, which
brought dub poets together from Jamaica, Miami,
Toronto, and England.

In the middle of the month, i got a contract teaching
creative writing to young people in grades 4 and 5.
Thiw was a bit of a challenge for me, as i'm used to
high school and up, but the kids were really
receptive, and they came up with some great work.

From the 14th to the 25th of the month, i was the
guest of Connie Bell, who is the top poetry promoter
and organizer in Jamaica. The first show that i did
was part of the Jamaica Ocho Rios Jazz Festival. In
all, there were about five performances that took
place while i was down there. I went to the men's and
women's prison to speak to the inmates, which went
really well. Other than that, we hung out, chilled,
and i wrote some new material; some of which will end
up in my new book, scheduled to be released this
October.

Speaking of books, we now have both of my books and
cd's available from the website. We've also made a few
changes and updates to the site, so check me out at

I got back from Jamaica on the 25th, and on the 26th,
i played host to the Soul Vibe Poetry Collective from
St. Louis. The collective had wanted to come to
Canada, so i helped them get shows in Ottawa,
Montreal, and Toronto.

That was it for June. In a few weeks you'll hear from
me again with an update on what July had in store. I
do want to let my people in Vancouver know that i will
be there from the 16th to the 19th.
