At a recent press conference held at the Finish Line Restaurant, Garrison Savannah, Chris Armond, Secretary/Racing Operations Manager of the Barbados Turf Club, announced the details of the C.O. Williams Group of Companies Barbados Fillies Guineas Race Day, which kicks off the start of the second season of racing on Saturday.

Armond said that 12 of the best fillies in training have taken entry for the feature C.O. Williams Group of Companies Fillies Guineas, which is a Grade1BF. Barbados race, open to West Indian bred three-year-old fillies, going 1570 metres and carrying a purse in excess of some $50 000.

The Racing Operations Manager/Secretary said this year's race looks like the most competitive since the inaugural running back in 2004.

Alex Roach, financial controller of C.O. Williams Construction Limited, noted that the C.O. Williams Group of Companies is again very pleased to be sponsoring the Fillies Guineas.

Roach said that this is the third consecutive year the C.O. Williams Group of Companies will be sponsoring the prestigious race and agrees that with a field as competitive as the 12 fillies entered, race fans should be in for a very exciting finish. The financial controller said the C.O. Williams Group of Companies looks forward to continuing the sponsorship of this race in future years.

He added that their group of companies enjoyed a good working relationship with the Barbados Turf Club and is pleased to say that all ladies will be admitted free on the race day. He further stated that he looks forward to not only seeing race fans attend, but said the day would be a good day to bring the family out to the Garrison to see a very exciting day's racing.

Francis Cozier, vice president of the Barbados Turf Club, said that on behalf of not only the Barbados Turf Club, but the industry on a whole, he couldn't thank the C.O. Williams Group of Companies enough for their continued sponsorship of this very important event.

According to Cozier, since Sir Charles Williams came up with the idea of a Fillies Guineas back in 2004, the race has become a major race on the Barbados Turf Club's programme for the racing year.
