BARBADOS - Cricketfest Proves A Success
Monday 05, April-2004
“We already have interests in other countries and it is an event with regional scope, and even international marketability,’ said Alison Saunders-Franklyn.
Saunders-Franklyn told the BUSINESS AUTHORITY the 20-plus booths and sponsors capitalised on the opportunity they were given to showcase their products and raise the bar on what they offered to the thousands of visitors who thronged the area last Wednesday.
The event, which proved that companies are really gearing up for World Cup Cricket in 2007, was well attended, and Saunders-Franklyn said her only regret was that more of the companies directly involved with tourism were not present.
“They missed an opportunity, because there was such a massive response to the event. I guess a lot of people were looking to see what CricketFest would be like,” she said.
However, the tourism and cricket links were still clear, with regional entertainers such as Rupee and others on hand to show how culture, and cricket can be integrated.
She added that without the support of sponsors such as the Barbados Tourism Authority, Barbados Cricket Association, the Nation Publishing Co. Limited, Horizon Event Planners, Bobby Goodman Sports, Graphic Impressions Limited and the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation the event could not have come to fruition.
Preliminary discussions have taken place so far on the staging of the event outside of Barbados, and after a review of this year’s activities, the organisers will be able to say what direction CricketFest, conceptualised four years ago, will move in.
Saunders-Franklin said the intention is for it to be more than a one-time mass marketing event.
