Whale and dolphin Safari.
Arrival at Melville Hall, welcomed at the
airport by our representative. Depart for tour along the eastern Atlantic
coast to Portsmouth, take a row boat trip up the exotic Indian River.
Whale and Dolphin photo safari on board our 45' catamaran.
There are no guarantees that we will see whales but we have a 90% success
rate as there are twenty two different types of Cetacean in these waters.
After an exhilarating morning whale and dolphin watching, the afternoon
is spent on one of the following tours . Emerald Pool and Carib Indian Village A 15-minute walk through the rainforest brings us to the Emerald Pool, so called because it reflects the greenery of the surrounding vegetation. Our guides will share their knowledge of the rainforest and the wildlife within. If you wish you can swim in the pool at the base of the fall.
After the Emerald Pool the tour continues to the east Atlantic coast and
the Carib Indian Village. Dominica is the only island where the indigenous
Caribs have survived and live together in their own community. Guides will
explain about the life of the Caribs in their village, with stops to look
at or purchase beautiful hand crafted souvenir items made by the Carib people.
We then proceed to the Melville Hall airport for departure. Cost per person upon request. We reserve the right to cancel pre arranged agreements for these hikes, due to weather conditions or if the company feels that the clients are not able to safely do the hike because of various physical conditions. the island's second largest town, where we take a rowboat trip up the
famous Indian River, so called after the Carib Indians who lived up
river and regularly used it as a route to the sea. The verdant vegetation
along the banks of the river is dominated by the intricately buttressed
Mang tree {Pterocarpus Officinalis}. Watch out for herons, kingfishers
and iguanas. The rowboats go to an area where the river narrows and
visitors can take a walk or go to the bush bar for a drink.
The river trip takes 1 - 1 1/2 hours Next we visit the Cabrits National Park which is an 18th century garrison, which is now waging war against the army of time. The garrison was abandoned as a military post in 1854 and has gradually been taken over by the forest. In 1982 some partial restorations were carried out on Fort Shirley the main fort of the garrison. Ruins of some of the batteries and the Commandant's House are still standing and are very interesting to visit. This tour lasts for 5-6 hours Cost 1-4 persons inclusive of the rowboat trip upon request with extra for each additional person.

which begins in the Valley of Desolation and is also fed by the Boiling
Lake, creates the magnificent Victoria Falls. The hike begins in the
village of Delices, about one and a half-hour's drive from our base.
On this hike we criss crossing the river all the way up the river
gorge, sometimes scrambling over large boulders, until we get to the
base of the waterfall where there is a beautiful pool for swimming.
The milky look of the water is a result of the many sulphurous minerals
mixing in the water. This water is said to be extremely beneficial
for the skin. Sari Sari Falls This is another of the island's truly
beautiful waterfalls, created by the Sari Sari River. The hike begins
in the village of Laplaine about one hour and fifteen minutes drive
from our base. Hiking to this waterfall is similar to going to Victoria
Falls, criss crossing the river and scrambling over boulders with
lush rainforest flanking the ridges. Boiling Lake Hike
This 6-7 hour arduous hike starts in
the village of Laudat. For the first hour the trail passes through lush
rain/montane forests, then moving up into the elfin forests on higher
ground - more difficult terrain. The Boiling Lake of Dominica is said
to be the largest of its kind in the world. It is about 200 feet in
diameter and is inside a crater; the lake is fed by two freshwater streams.
The water is heated by magma below the surface, which causes it to boil constantly at the centre where it is over 100 degrees Celsius. The trail also passes through the Valley of Desolation an area where there is plenty of volcanic related activities like hot fumeroles and Sulphur pits. Because of the mixture of different chemicals and minerals in the area, the streams have interesting colours like gray, bluish gray, white and even black. It is a very strenuous hike and one should be in very good physical condition before attempting to undertake it. It is recommended that you carry some liquid and snacks in a knapsack, this way you will have your hands free. The Boiling Lake hike should not be attempted by anyone with a heart condition or suffering from old injuries, which are likely to be aggravated by stress. People with physical problems should discuss them with the guides before doing the hike. Cost for 1-4 persons rates per additional people upon request We reserve the right to cancel pre arranged agreements for these hikes, due to weather conditions or if the company feels that the clients are not able to safely do the hike because of various physical conditions.
