We depart Roseau and travel along the west Caribbean coast,
then head inland up the Imperial Road, through the Antrim Valley, to the
Spanny Falls. These are two really great waterfalls in the forested interior.
The walk starts in agricultural lands and then descends into a river course
where the first waterfall is located.
The second fall is reached by continuing up a steep incline and then descending
into another river course. Both of these falls have beautiful pools at
their bases, a refreshing swim in one or both will certainly rejuvenate
you.The round-trip hiking time is about one hour and twenty minutes.
From the Spanny Falls we continue through the interior to the east Atlantic
coast and the Carib Indian Village. Dominica is the only island where
the indigenous Caribs have survived and live together in their own community.
Guides will explain about the life of the Carib people in their village,
with stops to look at or purchase hand crafted souvenir items made by
the Carib people.
After the Carib Village we head along the East Coast, again turning inland
to the Emerald Pool, one of the island's beautiful waterfalls within the
Morne Trois Piton National Park rainforest.
It is about a 15-minute walk through the rain forest to the Emerald Pool,
so called because it reflects the greenery of the surrounding vegetation.
The guides will explain about the rainforest and the wildlife. You can
swim in the pool at the base of the fall.
