HATS OFF to Barbados' cricketers.
On a day of excitement and intrigue, they staged a grand revival against Trinidad and Tobago to move within heartbeats of a comeback victory against the defending double-crown champions.

After conceding a first innings deficit of 45, they hit back with venom to roll over the visitors for a modest 145 in the second innings when the aggressive Tino Best spearheaded the effort with the support of Dwayne Smith and Pedro Collins.

What a way to start a career!

Dwayne Smith is all smiles as he celebrates reaching his first Test hundred.

Dwayne shot and drove his way into the cricket record books, and the hearts of Caribbean cricket fans.

In 2004 he was virtually unknown whose selection to the West Indies team shocked the region, dramatically unveiled his enormous talent to a stunned South African team and its noisy supporters, denying them anticipated victory in the third Test match at lands in Cape Town.

Dwayne Smith, displaying a rich sense of responsibility that many feel he doesn’t often show, inspired Barbados to a crucial first innings advantage that is almost certain to guarantee the repeat Cup champions a place in the final of the International Challenge.

February 2006

THE WEST INDIES began the second day of the opening Test hoping that their three leading batsmen could match the bright morning sunshine and lift the gloom that descended over the innings in the closing few minutes of the previous evening.

Dwayne Smith, the lively medium-pacer pressed into service because of the known inability of Dwayne Bravo to bowl similar stuff, doubled his number of Test wickets with three. < Read more >

Exciting devastation!

That was the only way to describe the performance of Barbados' swashbuckling all-rounder Dwayne Smith yesterday, who showed he remains the region's most exciting batsman in limited overs cricket.

Open-armed, then circumspect, then simply destructive, Smith's stroke-filled 96 was the main reason Barbados reached tomorrow's final of the 2005 KFC Cup with a 41-run victory over the Windward Islands.

He thrilled a small crowd at the Bourda ground in Guyana with his innings of 96 off just 81 balls, setting up a scintillating showdown against the hosts.

Barbados made 270/7 in their allotted overs, and the Windwards, set a revised, and almost impossible target after bad light stopped play, could only reach 175/8
