Floyd Reifer new technical adviser

There was heavy rain on Friday and again yesterday, but even if there was no inclement weather, one of the team's leading players would not have taken the field anyway. Floyd Reifer, the left-handed batsman who has been in the side since 1992, has been battling injuries since he collided with a teammate on the field on October 28 last year. "I say my prayers every day and I've got to thank God that I'm not in a wheelchair or even dead. It could be a career ending injury," said Reifer, whose hand is still in a sling as he tries to recover from a knee operation he underwent in New York just before Christmas. The 32-year-old left-hander had his first day on the job yesterday and was welcomed by the players. He was expected to be a member of the team for this year’s campaign but suffered a career-threatening injury last October when he collided with a teammate trying to take a catch. He is not expected to play until mid-year. Yesterday, he walked with the assistance of a crutch, and his troubled right knee was in a brace. He has been contracted by the Barbados Cricket Association to work closely with the young batsmen. Barbados are the defending champions but find themselves at the bottom of the table in the Carib Series after two matches. They have just four points, following a first round wash-out against Windward Islands and a sound defeat by Trinidad and Tobago. Jamaica arrived here confident and top the standings with 24 points after two wins. Compliments of the Nation News |
