Thousands of Barbadians and visitors alike converged
on the Garrison Savannah yesterday to witness the 27th running of
the prestigious Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup. Twelve outstanding thoroughbreds,
six from Barbados, four from Martinique, and one each from France
and Trinidad and Tobago, faced starter Mark Batson in the 1 800 metres
event, all going after Gold Cup glory. |
And when it was all finished Andy Ward aboard
Lord Michael Taylor/Clifton Racing's Pure
Temptation came out best in a driving finish as they edged out
the second placed John Brian (Rickey Walcott) (right), and the third
placed Apostle (Anderson Trotman) on the rail.
