ezine >> CARIBBEAN -cricket ezine Lara Says Congrats Saturday 11, October-2003
“I called Matthew Hayden at the close of play at Perth and congratulated him on his record achievement,” Lara told reporters in Jamaica yesterday. “I am and will always be grateful to be chosen to hold the world Test record for nearly ten years and to belong to the elite group of batsmen who have headed the all-time scoring list. “I am proud to still hold the individual first class score of 501 not out. A standard has been set which we must strive to achieve to pass.” Lara, who broke Sir Garfield Sobers’ record when he scored 375 against England at the Antigua Recreation Ground in 1994 continued: “My focus for the future lies in contributing to the development of West Indies cricket and playing a part in a successful West Indies cricket team. “The record for Matthew is a testament to Australian cricket and their fast pace of play. The score is likely to be made in the context of an Australian victory.... “I wish Matthew and his family peace and happiness.” Compliments of the Nation News |
