Holding
Michael Holding has been called "the Rolls Royce of Bowlers"
- a fast bowler with a smooth action. Several umpires reported his ability
to run up to the whicket silently, leading to his nickname of "whispering
death". He was capable of terrorising batsmen with his intimidating pace
and bounce. Holding was possibly the fastest of a dynamic fast bowling line-up
in the victourious West Indian team of the 1970s and 80s. After his retirement
(brought about prematurely due to back problems) he embarked on a successful
career as a commentator.
