Truly a wonderful performance!
Words used by Minister of State in the Prime Minister Office, Senator John Williams after viewing the Barbados Theatre Arts Presentation ‘ Praise Song for Bruce’ at Ons Erf in Paramaribo, Suriname. According to him, the presentation highlights the multiplicity of talent, which exists, that needs to be developed.
Praise Song chronicles the writings of one of the island’s more celebrated writers, Bruce St. John, and was first performed back in March this year. Says Senator Williams of the performance that gives insight into Barbadian Culture, while defining for its viewers a sense of identity:
"It’s an eye-opener as it shows the rest of the Caribbean that we have a lot to offer the region in the area of the Arts."
Performing before a pack theatre on both occasions, the energetic cast, in the word of Director, Harclyde Walcott captures the Barbadian voice, while defining and articulating the dignity of the Caribbean persona.
Among those persons viewing the performances were the first lady of Suriname, Chairman of the National Cultural Foundation, Al Gilkes, CEO Ian Estwick, Roddy Roach, amongst others.
