NCF - Dance Studio The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) is pleased to announce the opening of the NCF Dance Studio, West Terrace, St. James. The NCF’s Dance Studio is a unique structure dedicated to the development of dance in Barbados that combines a dance studio with a multi-functional performing arts centre open to all Barbadians, residents and visitors.
The NCF Studio serves as a flagship for Barbadian and Caribbean people promoting Barbadian performing arts, culture and opinion through a diverse and exciting range of programmes and activities. The Studio will be intensively used for classes, rehearsals and activities such as theatre performances, conferences and video evenings and will be a popular place for local and visiting Artists to meet. The studio’s location makes access easy via our public transportation service (Mini Van No. 3 and all Wanstead buses).
The NCF would like to take this opportunity to invite you or representatives of company to a heritage Dance Workshop on April 24th and 25th with “Kifoko” a Maroon dance and drumming group from the Ndjuka people of Suriname. The workshop caters to Secondary schools, community groups as well as the established dance schools. The workshop will also have a component where the group speaks about its culture. In continued celebration of the NCF Dance Studio, a second Week of Open House will be hosted from Monday April 26th to May 2nd, 2004.The workshop and all classes during the Week of Open House are free of cost. Participants will have the opportunity to get familiar with the class programme, dance with some of your colleagues and meet other dance enthusiasts. The daily class programme will be from 5:30 pm to 7:00pm and 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Monday to Friday. We would also like to invite you to the NCF World Dance Day celebrations on Thursday April 29th where a video evening will be hosted at the NCF Dance Studio beginning at 7:30 pm. Persons interested in dance can view and discuss aspects of dance as it relates to a changing society. World Dance Day was established in 1982 by UNESCO and is celebrated every year on the 29th of April.
Arts education plays a major role in the developmental aspect of the NCF’s Dance desk programming. The NCF is committed to helping and informing you of how your personal experiences with the arts can be of benefit to yourself, your community and the island in the creation of a vibrant dance and arts culture.
