NCF - Dance Workshop - 'Kifoko'

April 24th and 25th

The NCF held a heritage Dance Workshop on April 24th and 25th with “Kifoko” a Maroon dance and drumming group from the Ndjuka people of Suriname.

The workshop catered to Secondary schools, community groups as well as the established dance schools. The workshop also had a component where the group speaks about its culture.

Arts education plays a major role in the developmental aspect of the NCF’s Dance desk programming. The NCF is committed to helping and informing you of how your personal experiences with the arts can be of benefit to yourself, your community and the island in the creation of a vibrant dance and arts culture.

Swinging Surinamese - Sunday 01, August-2004

Unable to attend the Emancipation lecture as hoped, the Kikofo Dancers from Suriname made up for that performance with a lovely one at Bridgetown Market on Spring Garden Highway yesterday.
Here, clad in colourful costumes, they sang lustily and moved rhythmically on stage, bringing a piece of their culture alive for all Barbadians and visitors alike to see.
