BARBADOS - Oistins

In 1652 the Charter of Barbados was signed in a tavern called Ye Mermaid's Inn, in the fishing village of Oistins. The charter pledged the islander's loyal obedience to Cromwell and his Commonwealth Parliament, in return for self rule and free trade.

Today Oistins is the fishing hub of the south, with a modern fish market. Land has been reclaimed and a slipway and winch provided to help the local fishermen get their boats in and out of the water.

Fresh fish can be bought at 4pm when the daily catch is landed.
Oistins is also the home of the famous Oistins Festival and Fish Fry.

Angel's is popular with locals by day and by night

and a favourite spot to hang out on a Friday night, (the locals say 'lime') for music and great Bajan food.
Dolphin, Blue Marlin and Flying Fish, grilled or fried, served with plantain, macaroni cheese, vegetables and salad... delicious.

Bar B-Q Chicken with peas and rice, Macaroni Pie and loads of fresh vegetables, the choice is yours.

Open for lunch from 9.00am to 4.00pm it costs around Bds $15.00 for a heaped plate-full.

Dinner in the evening is around Bds $20.00. Sit on the beach beneath the stars as you enjoy the great taste of freshly prepared food.
