Polo is a beautiful game with tough players going head-to-head in pursuit of victory. On Sunday, the game reached fever pitch at the Clifton Field as Team Courtesy faced Team Mango Bay. It was an intense contest as can be seen from the faces of Jamie Dixon (left) of Courtesy and Danny Atwell of Mango Bay. Veteran player Sir Charles Williams (right) had a fall, but paramedics were on hand to look after him. Sir Charles proved to be a tough player and he soon was back on his feet again

Polo is one of the world's oldest sports, known as the sport of kings. It is a highly competitive sport that combines the speed and power of the mount with the skill of the rider.

Although it demands both strength and stamina, polo differs from many other sports in its spirit and attitude, reflected in the dignified bearing of the players and their immense respect for the rules. Seen here Pablo Crispin of Barbados in pursuit of a goal.

This money was raised from a charity raffle and an auction of the players' team shirts on the final day of the tournament.< Read more >

Polo in Barbados

The Barbados Polo Club's ability to give visiting teams some stiff competition has attracted many high calibre international players over the years.

The Jamaican team has played here often and they are pictured here during their January '04 visit. The home team won the series this year. The social aspect of polo is an important part of any series and Barbados is renowned for the hospitality shown to visiting teams.

The Barbados Polo Club was formed in 1939 and for twenty years was based at the Garrison. In the mid 60's the club moved to its Holders Hill home on the West Coast where the game enjoyed relative popularity. In the past decade however, polo in Barbados has become more and more popular, with large groups turning out on Sunday to enjoy a fast paced, exciting game.
