AS OIL PRICES soar each day and the cost of gasoline at the pump is ever-increasing, one American engineer and professor is touting the use of solar hydrogen as an alternative energy source.
Not only would it save consumers hundreds of dollars in gasoline, solar hydrogen also replaces the dirty and expensive fossil fuels.

Solar hydrogen expert, Roy McAlister, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of the worldwide Hydrogen Association, will be in Barbados for the Sci-Tech Green Expo 2006 to share his knowledge on this breakthrough technology.

As if to prove his theory, for the past 14 years, McAlister has run his pickup truck on hydrogen fuel, saving a small fortune by not purchasing gasoline and helping in the fight against pollution from gas emissions.
The author of the ground-breaking book, The Solar Hydrogen Civilisation: The Future Of Energy Is The Future Of Our Global Economy, will give a presentation at the Expo on solar hydrogen on Friday, March 10, at Sherbourne Conference Centre at 10:30 a.m. He will outline the benefits of this alternative source of energy and show
that solar hydrogen is the way forward for modern civilisation.

"Zero" pollution

McAlister shows how hydrogen can be produced in volume from solar and biomass energy for as little as $1 per gasoline gallon equivalent. He also pointed out that an added benefit of solar hydrogen power is zero pollution.

The professor is a trained engineer and serves on advisory boards of the International Hydrogen Energy Association and the International Solar Energy Association.

In addition to his leadership roles in renewable energy associations, he manages research projects and educational programmes. McAlister also provides engineering services to various aerospace and commercial firms for whom he has developed and patented numerous energy conversion systems and new materials.

The Sci-Tech Green Expo will be held at Sherbourne Conference Centre from March 9 to 11, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day
