BARBADOS Sailing Holidays
Barbados' beautiful climate and ever present north easterly
trade winds make sailing a pleasure. Centuries ago these same trade winds
brought the courageous Carib and Arawak Indians in their long canoes It
brought Captain John Powell sailing into Holetown in 1625. Each of these
inhabitants to our island have contributed to the Barbadian sailing culture
The Barbados Yachting Association works hard to promote
sailing and their vision in developing the sport within the community
has produced an enthusiastic sailing club with some great young sailors.
Following that fine display, Barbados’ Optimist Dinghy sailing team continued to put Barbados on the map at a number of international and regional events. Compliments of the Barbados Advocate THREE local sailors, with thoughts of representing Barbados
at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, will be pursuing very intensive training
programmes in their bid to meet the qualifying requirements for the Games.
The three Bajan sailors are Russell Streeter, Christopher Kent and Greg
Douglas, who will all be competing at various regional and international
competitions in their efforts to qualify for the coming Olympics. < Read more >
Plans for the sailing spectacular were announced by Peter Burke of the Barbados Sailing Association at the Bay Street Yacht Club yesterday, when the prizes were also handed over to the organisers of the regatta. Burke said that the regatta will be contested ion three classes – Racing Class, Cruising Class and Lasers, the latter class included for the first time. Read more Web Posted - Wed Jun 16 2004
