cricket CARIBBEAN - To Move Forward, We Must Bite The Bullet
Chairman of selectors of WICB.
"We sometimes look at performances and we see [there are] individuals who are just performing to keep their heads above water,” Sir Vivian charged as he spoke on Starcom Network’s radio programme Point At Issue. “This is not the package we are looking for and in my view that’s a very selfish sort of thing.” He called for greater effort from players if the West Indies were to move out of the doldrums. It reached rock bottom on Saturday, falling for 94 at the hands of England at Kensington Oval, and losing in just three days. Three weeks ago they were all out for 47 in Jamaica. “There are a lot of people who I think we all know have ability but just haven’t turned up for the party in what are the requirements, and it is as simple as that,” Sir Vivian said. “We are looking for winners, and certainly the sort of attitudes that you have seen I don’t know where it could have been created.” He disclosed that there were some players who had played in only a few Tests and were “saying things like he has arrived”. The West Indies trail England 0-3 in their four-match series going into the final contest in Antigua on Saturday. Sir Vivian noted that many talented players had been unearthed but inconsistency was their biggest challenge. “On certain occasions you get it done and on some occasions you cannot get it done. Inconsistency is not going to win you very much,” he added. “If we are going to look to move forward, we got to bite the bullet. What we do need is that collective unit where we can have individuals who are clear thinkers of what needs to be done and to work around how it should be done.” Visit Sir Viv's page Compliments of the Nation
