SPORTS
NEWS
Let the work begin!" was the call of Stephen
Alleyne, chief executive officer of World Cup Barbados, and workmen
moved in with a giant machine and demolished the sightscreen in
front of the Peter Short Media Centre at the Kensington Oval on
June 18th 2005. At 10:13 a.m. the coral stone sightscreen at the
Malcolm Marshall End of the Oval came tumbling down. It was the
start of demolition of the Oval to make way for a new, ultra-modern
28 000-seat stadium which will host the final of the 2007 Cricket
World Cup.

most dominating day of the championships. First, Chelsea Gellineau
won the 50-metre freestyle, then hearing-impaired student Marsha
Watson (above with mum Marjorie) gave Bajans double delight, powering
