Rally Racing

That's the report card assessment from chef de mission Craig Archer on Barbados' performance at the 20th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games held jointly in Colombia and Santo Domingo.

Barbados captured a record 19 medals, way above the eight they collected at both the 1998 Games in Maracaibo, Venezuela, and the 2002 meet in El Salvador.

 18th Commonwealth Games into Australia' Members of the Barbados team waving their flags proudly as they paraded into the Melbourne Cricket Ground stadium during a two-and-a-half hour, multi-million-dollar production that ushered the 18th Commonwealth Games into Australia's second largest city. Barbados has a contingent of nearly 100 competitors and officials, and will be hoping over the two weeks to pick up medals in boxing, women's hockey, netball, men's basketball, swimming, table tennis, shooting, badminton and weightlifting.

Barbados’ triumph in winning its first Hoerman Cup title is attributable primarily to better preparation. This is the view of team manager Charles Edey, who said that thanks to the support of management of the golf courses, the team was equipped to pull off its historic win.

Polo is one of the world's oldest sports, known as the sport of kings. It is a highly competitive sport that combines the speed and power of the mount with the skill of the rider.

Today's polo is of a very high standard and fiercely competitive, as can be seen at any of the matches of The Barbados Polo Club, which hosts an annual calendar of regional and international matches.

Let the work begin!" was the call of Stephen Alleyne, chief executive officer of World Cup Barbados, and workmen moved in with a giant machine and demolished the sightscreen in front of the Peter Short Media Centre at the Kensington Oval on June 18th 2005. At 10:13 a.m. the coral stone sightscreen at the Malcolm Marshall End of the Oval came tumbling down. It was the start of demolition of the Oval to make way for a new, ultra-modern 28 000-seat stadium which will host the final of the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

TWO CARIFTA GOLD MEDALS. It took 72 hours, but Barbados finally earned their first gold medal of the 2006 CARIFTA Swimming Championships Saturday night. And then they went one better! For the first two days of action, Bajan fans had only Raymond Edwards' silver to shout about, but the screams could be heard across Wildey Saturday night after Barbados claimed two golds on their most dominating day of the championships. First, Chelsea Gellineau won the 50-metre freestyle, then hearing-impaired student Marsha Watson (above with mum Marjorie) gave Bajans double delight, powering to victory in the 15-17 butterfly for her first CARIFTA medal..
