Caribbean Surfing![]()
|
Try your hand at big game fishing, or simply relax on a catamaran, watching the flying fish as they glide along the crest of a wave. WATER SPORTS IN ST. JOSEPH
Surfing is particularly
popular on the east coast of Bathsheba
this will be dealt with in our other parish links.
Along this coastline you will discover a small bay where local fisher-folk have lived and worked for generations, living out their lives in this beautiful untouched area, along the island's most wild, hilly and beautiful stretch of coast...Bathsheba. Known for its big powerful waves blown in by our ever-present trade winds, straight off the coast of Africa! Famous for its fast walls and big thundering barrels... For years visiting locals and overseas surfers alike have been tossed about by the foaming surf at the "Soup Bowl" in Bathsheba. This picturesque little unspoilt fishing village becomes a hive of activity, especially in November, when the wind blows from the south and the waves begin to grow...that's when the International Surfing Championship takes place and the 'surfs up'. Surfers rent 'bay houses' and mingle with the locals, becoming bronzed under the tropical sun, with their bleached hair looking reminiscent of the 60's for those of us around that can remember that far back!! Imagine while the roosters are still crowing, the surfers are hitting the water, ready for a great sunrise session...beats cornflakes any day!!
Bathsheba offers something to everyone, there are personalised warm Jacuzzi
rock pools in the reefs. The Atlantic ozone results in a nap after lunch
becoming an essential activity, not just a possibility! For information on cheap flights... CLICK HERE. Click here
