Caribbean sports holidays are gaining in popularity and
St. Lucia, as one of the main islands scheduled to host the cricket
World Cup in 2007, is enjoying the attention. In preperation for the World Cup in 2007 the Beausejour
Cricket Ground is being expanded from a seating capacity of fifteen thousand
in order to accommodate the thousands of fans that are expected to follow
this event from island to island. Compliments of the Nation News CASTRIES, St Lucia - St Lucia will add about 1 100 new hotel rooms to handle an expected increase in visitors for the 2007 Cricket World Cup, the government said yesterday. Tourism officials expect up to 15 000 visitors for the tournament, which is being held in the Caribbean for the first time. Construction was to begin shortly on a series of projects including small hotels, condominiums and villas, the government said in a release.< Read more > St Lucia Golf There are several small golf courses in St. Lucia and one of the most impressive is the 18 hole St Lucia Golf & Country Club. Set in the scenic, rolling hills of Cap Estates the course offers panoramic views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The ly-designed 6829 Yard Par 71 course is the only 18 hole course on the island. It also feature a completes Pro Shop featuring favourite name brands, a 350 Yard Driving Range, Golf Academy and a Full Service Restaurant with scenic views of the Caribbean and surrounding architecture. A second 18 hole golf course is in the planning stages.
Designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. The course will be situated
at Point Hardy located on the northern tip of the island. This second
course will ensure St. Lucia's position as a major golfing destination
and attractive real estate to compliment the golf and offer luxury accommodation
to golfers, is also being planned. St Lucia Tennis The highpoint of the year for tennis fans in St. Lucia
comes in November and December. In the final week of November Legends
Tennis Week held at the St. Lucia Racquet Club, brings together tennis
aficionados and masters of the game, like Illie Nastasie or Roy Emerson.
There are tennis clinics and exhibition matches. |
