Haydn is a tall left-handed seventeen year old with a big serve, aggressive forehand and a one handed backhand. He is Barbados' under 18 number 1 and the winner of Barbados' National Tournament.

BARBADOS' latest sporting prospect intends to seriously pursue his dream of making an impression on the international tennis world.

Haydn Lewis, a 19-year-old left-hander and one of the island's most promising junior tennis players in recent years, has turned professional and will pursue his career from the Australia-based camp of coach Peter Smith.

"Right now I have an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking of 1223 but I hope to be among the Top 600 in the world by the end of 2005," Lewis told WeekendSport. < Read more >

He has played many prestigious tournaments representing Barbados in Aruba, Jamaica, Mexico, Florida, South America and also in the Davis Cup in St. Vincent last year.


At present Haydn is following his dream of becoming a professional player and is in Australia playing junior and futures tournaments.This was made possible by corporate Barbados and his main sponsor Mr. Allard of the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary.
The David & John Lloyd Tennis Village at Sugar Hill has also been instrumental in getting the opportunity for Haydn to train in Australia.


When he returns, Haydn will tour extensively and play fifteen junior and four futures tournaments, with the aim of getting his ranking to top 40 by late November. He has the talent, desire and physical gifts to go into his final junior year in the top 20 and to go on to become an International tennis star.


Haydn is pictured here with his elder brother Kodi who has also represented Barbados in many tournaments including World Youth Games in Russia and the Pan Am games in Canada.

Barbados has wonderful tennis facilities on the west coast the David and John Lloyd Tennis Village at Sugar Hill is the most recent facility, boasting four well lit Omni courts. Sandy Lane hotel has nine hard courts and Royal Westmoreland has two.

To the south of the island there are courts at the site of the Barbados Hilton (the hotel is in the process of being rebuilt) Club Rockley and the Casuarina hotel. The National Tennis Centre has its home at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium at Wildey.
