BARBADOS - Third Stone

Third Stone

Third Stone…
rising stars in Barbados’ musical firmament.

Every Wednesday night the crowd at McBride’s in The Gap gets larger, as local and visiting reggae-lovers discover Barbados’ best-kept secret, the roots rock reggae of Third Stone. Third Stone
This band combines a rawness and freshness of sound with timeless rhythms that echo in the heart. Third Stone
Graham Johnson

With the skillful mixing of Graham Johnson blending the musical talents and featuring each one too, this is a musical treat not to be missed.

Third Stone has opened shows for most of the top reggae artists that have visited Barbados and now their popularity is growing on the club scene.Lead singer Gaye ‘Melody Man’ Yearwood is a musical dynamo, radiating energy as body and voice add power to conscious lyrics. His popularity since winning the Richard Stoute Teen Talent contest in 1994 has steadily grown and he has performed in shows featuring Buju Banton and Beres Hammond.

Third Stone

Keyboardist Alex Mathias was part of the ‘Spirit of Unity’ International Reggae Tour 1999 that featured Third World and Maxi Priest. His musical credits as performer, songwriter, producer and arranger read like a who’s who of reggae and after you have heard his tight, driving rhythms you will understand why.

Alex Mathias

Drummer/Percussionist Jamal Browne

Drummer/Percussionist Jamal Browne takes you on a musical exploration of mathematical proportions, dividing, subtracting and multiplying beats in wonderful combinations, touching a primal consciousness that instinctively responds to every nuance of his rhythmical patterns. He too has performed alongside the best!

Bass player David Wallerson is a musician whose talents are much in demand and he has performed with opening bands on major reggae shows featuring Maxi Priest, Bunny Wailer and Beres Hammond among others. Weaving a bass line that is felt as well as heard, his solid beat is the perfect accompaniment for Melody Man. Bass player David Wallerson
Guitarist Scott Zimmerman

Guitarist Scott Zimmerman is a visual contradiction. Laid back movement is in total contrast to flying fingers plucking from the strings rhythms and melodies that sing a song as evocative as any vocalist. Scott has added his magic to classic rock, funk and hip hop bands as well as with major reggae artistes.

Melody Man Third Stone was the band of choice for the 2004 Bob Marley birthday celebration held at After Dark in February. The band, with Melody Man out front, opened the show in irie fashion, with Melody Man’s fantastic voice finding many fans.
The band then backed headliner Gregory Isaacs, a reggae icon from the same era as Bob Marley. Gregory Isaacs backed by Third Stone

Everyone who has witnessed a Third Stone performance agrees, whether you are a visitor to Barbados or a local, a trip to The Gap on a Wednesday night is a very rewarding experience.
