MANHATTAN, New York – Billionaire entrepreneur Donald Trump is looking
for 100 golfers to participate in the Trump Million Dollar Invitational
in St Vincent and the Grenadines, a media release says.
The event is a new, dramatic high stakes golf tournament that will hold
its inaugural event in May at the Trump International Golf Club at Raffles
Resort on Canouan, in the southern Grenadines.
"I am going to personally give US$1 million to the one golfer who
can prove they have the skill and nerve it takes to survive under the
most extreme pressure on one of the world's most demanding courses. I'm
not going to just give US$1 million away. They're going to have to take
it," Trump said at a Press conference in Manhattan on Tuesday as
he issued a challenge to golfers around the world.
The 2006 Trump Million Dollar Invitational at Raffles
Resort Canouan will be held on May 21 to 26 and is open to all professional
or amateur golfers, 18 and older, who are not currently members of the
PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Champions Tour, Nationwide Tour or European Tour.
The event is an invitation-only one and a maximum of 100 players will
be invited to compete in the 54-hole stroke play tournament. The entry
fee is US$15 000 per player.
All entry fees collected will be awarded, creating a US$1.5 million dollar
prize pool.
Players are responsible for all travel, lodging, meals and other expenses
associated with their participation in the event.
The Trump Million Dollar Invitational is a three-day competition without
the benefit of handicap. The players with the lowest ten scores will advance
to the grand prize matches on May 26.
The ten finalists will compete in a nine-hole play-off where one player
will be eliminated on each hole until there are only two players left,
who will then play the final hole for the US$1 million grand prize.
Prizes will also be given to players placing second to tenth.
Raffles Resort Canouan Island is located on Canouan in the heart of the
southern Grenadines.
The Trump Million Dollar Invitational will be televised by ESPN, in July,
and distributed worldwide. (CMC)
