expected to challenge Barbados. What transpired was a pounding for the
Jamaicans as the Bajans destroyed the visitors in an all-important contest
in the Caribbean Zone qualifiers for the 2006 Volleyball World Championships
Saturday night. Here, Renier Grace (left) of Barbados hits through a Jamaica

News Barbados would have played hosts Puerto Rico in their first game last night at the Hector Sola Bezares Coliseum in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The feature opening game, which was played on Monday, resulted in the United States dismissing the hosts 25-20, 26-24, 25-22, despite the exhortations of the highly partisan crowd. Earlier, Mexico destroyed Guatemala 25-13, 25-14, 25-11. That one-sided result has given a lot of hope to Barbados who will play Guatemala on Friday with the winner being assured of reaching the semifinals. Of course, Barbados' focus will have to be on getting battle-ready for tonight's game against the United States and then tomorrow's clash against Mexico. |
